Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree of English literature. Mitchell began her career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). The following year, she was general reporter at NBC News in Washington. In 1981, she began covering at the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the chief congressional correspondent. She became the chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV program Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. She was on the panel in the presidential debates in 1988 in the debate between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in journalism. In 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered in the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was during Ronald Reagan's two terms as president. Her reporting included a number of crucial stories such as the Iran-contra affair, the tax reform and the budget and also the issue of arms control. She traveled extensively together with President Reagan for summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
